Are FNB above the law?

<p>I had a loan with FNB more than 17 years ago. They handed it over to attorneys who I settled with and paid. They now say, they have no record of the payment, they say no attorneys ever dealt with it, and I must prove from 17 years ago that I paid it.....really? 17 years ago? </p> <p>Legally I only have to keep documentation for 8 years so I am not sure how they expect me to prove something from 17 years ago and are holding this against my name after 17 years which is surely also *******. To the best of my knowledge they can only hold it against your name for 5 years. Did I mention 17 years....later? What have they been doing for the last 17 years to try and get their money if they truly believe that "I did not pay it"....they did nothing!! </p> <p>Also I moved to the UK in 2013 and I definitely threw all my paperwork away back then, but if I had of known that FNB thought I did not pay them, I could have kept the documentation or at least proved I had paid it. </p> <p>Are FNB above the law?</p> <p> </p>
