Applying for a top up on an existing student loan

I am trying for the past week to apply for a top up on my son's existing student loan with FNB. He is going to his third year at Damelin doing his BCom Business Management and marketing degree.<br> I have been sent around phoning various numbers to apply for a top up (which by the way they said it is not a new loan). With my initial call my application was declined. Reason unknown. Second call I was told that my husband must phone as the account is in his name.... apparently a new rule. After my husband phoned our application was also turned down. Reason : He is a risk to pay the interest monthly!! This was a joke... we have been with FNB for 28 years. I phoned our personal banker to assist. She investigated and also found it difficult to get answers. I tried again ... holding on for 15 - 30 minutes at a time. I was then told that the rule is now that clients with joint accounts may not apply for student loans. Not one consultant told me the same story. I need to pay the fees by 31 December.
