Appalling Service from FNB’s PayPal Team
I am extremely disappointed with the service I have received from FNB in trying to withdraw funds from my PayPal account into my Capitec account.
Since receiving funds through PayPal (to assist a family in crisis), I have been attempting to use FNB’s PayPal portal. Unfortunately, the instructions on the website are vague and unclear. I have emailed FNB twice requesting that someone contact me telephonically, as I am unable to dial 087 numbers from my cellphone. Despite this, no one has bothered to call me back.
My wife even took time off from work to visit an FNB branch in person, hoping to get assistance, yet we are still left struggling. The only response I received via email was a generic message instructing me to register on their website — steps I had already followed.
It has now been more than a week without any meaningful help or resolution. For a bank that prides itself on slogans such as “How can we help you” and “How can we put you first”, I am shocked at the lack of accountability and service delivery.
I urgently request that senior management review this matter and provide practical support, not generic responses, to customers who depend on these services.
I asked her to call me back in 5 minutes so that I could be on my PC. She agreed. Instead of calling back promptly, she phoned me 47 minutes later at 14:44. Interesting enough, she knew my surname (which I had not disclosed on Hello Peter) — so clearly FNB had my details all along.
When I explained my issue, she asked for my ID number, then claimed I don’t have a profile on the system — despite the fact that I do have a profile and had already linked an account. Her instructions were vague, she went silent multiple times during the call, and in the end I was forced to register all over again.
After submitting the details, I got an “invalid credentials” error. Her response? A half-hearted “apology” that felt completely insincere, followed by telling me she would ask the branch to contact me. This is the same branch my wife has already taken time off work to visit without getting help.
When I asked her for a timeline on when the branch would contact me, her answer was: “I don’t know their turnaround time.” Unacceptable! How can a major bank with slogans like “How can we help you” and “How can we put you first” operate with such incompetence, vagueness, and lack of accountability?
This whole ordeal has been nothing short of disgusting. I’m left with no confidence in FNB’s ability to support their own PayPal service.
