********* and *****ulent Practices by FNB – Charging Excess Fees Without Proper Communication

I am utterly disappointed with FNB for charging me an excess fee of R1,000 as a penalty for swiping my card when there were insufficient funds. This practice is not only highly ********* but also verges on *****. At no point was I made aware that I would be incurring R120 per swipe when my account was in deficit.

What’s even more frustrating is that there was no warning or alert via the FNB app to inform me that I would be penalised for swiping without sufficient funds. Customers deserve to be notified and given the option to accept or reject these charges, especially in cases like this. FNB should be giving a grace period on the first transaction and promptly communicating the risk of further charges.

It was only when I spoke to one of FNB’s consultants that I was informed about this punitive charge, and they provided me with a reference number: RL***. If this information had been made clear beforehand, I could have managed my finances differently and avoided this unfair charge.

This is a prime example of poor customer service and a failure to communicate transparently. I am now awaiting a resolution from FNB and expect this matter to be addressed immediately. It’s outrageous that a bank can impose such penalties without proper customer communication and consent.

I sincerely hope FNB takes this matter seriously and rectifies this unjust situation.
