Analyze your monthly debit orders carefully!!!

FNB insurance brokers sold me a top up insurance in 1999 for my vehicle finance in the event i should pass or be disabled which would cover my settlement amount. Surprise surprise, it's the year 2018 and although this finance was settled in the year 2003 they neglected to cancel this insurance product. Thus 15 years later i am still paying for something that was never cancelled due to their own negligence.

I contacted my private banker who could only escalate this to FNB insurance brokers. They contact me with the only response that they do not know how this occurred and they cannot cancel this for me telephonically. Absolute useless service. I DEMAND to have my full funds refunded to me for 15 years including accumulative interest based on a conservative investment rate. Tired of dealing with your *********** staff and if anyone at FNB actually has the ***** to contact me personally and resolve this matter i will be very surprised. Shocking service like this is the norm in South Africa today and i refuse to take this lying down. I will rant and rave on all your social media platforms until i am heard. Why should i at my cost and time waste my effort to rectify your mistakes??????

Not surprised at all........receive an automated response with ref nr which states that should i like to receive quicker action i need to phone FNB Care....I do that offcourse and the poor lady at the receiving end of my obvious frustration has only this to say...."this is a fairly new complaint, please afford me the opportunity to escalate this matter to the relevant manager (who is this? i have never received any sort of correspondence from any management at FNB) Customers are forced to deal with call center consultants who have zero authority to action any remedy whilst the apparent "relevant management" sit back and do nothing. FNB trim your relevant "fat cats" and provide proper training to your staff that have to deal with the public!!!!!

So my update as follows, Robyn Booysen at FNB seems to be assigned to my complaint and i receive this email response from her yesterday.... Good afternoon Mr Dawson, Please be advised our investigation is taking slightly longer than we anticipated. We have referred the refund enquiry to Santam, Santam have reverted back to us advising “in line with SAIA Code of Conduct, we need to look in to refunding the premium requested for a period of 3 years”. Please can you allow us time to revert back to you. Kind regards Robyn Booysen So my take on the above is that FNB are taking no accountability and are now pointing fingers at Santam (the underwriter) who conveniently pull some sort of code out to try and get out of refunding my funds taken for over 10 years. So i am supposed to be content that i at least will receive the last 3 years of debit orders mistakenly taken from my account?? I think not. People be very skeptical when dealing with people who try to sell you VAP (value added products like top-up insurance). It seems neither the FNB insurance brokers, nor the underwriter cancels this insurance when your finance is settled.

The latest straw ---- Good afternoon Mr Dawson, As per our telephone conversation, kindly please see the correspondence between myself and Wesbank. I have called Nissan Waterfall-Durban 031 ********** , spoke to Tammy one of the financial managers. She advised that at the present moment they (Nissan) place their insurance Top-Up cover with Hollard. Going back 18/19 years she is not able to assist. Please also refer to the below email of the 13th August i.e. the history of endor*****t’s. On 16/05/2007 the vehicle cover was amended from comprehensive cover to third party. Should a client have Top-Up cover, we FNB Insurance or Santam will never allow cover to be amended to third party only. Thus we of the impression that this cover provided by us is not Top-Up cover. If any policyholder’s motor/home finance is paid up with a particular finance house, the policy does not automatically cancel. It is still the responsibility of the client to instruct the service provider to cancel the policy. Mr Dawson please can you contact Hollard, please provide them with your id number there is a possibility that the top-up cover would have been with Hollard. They will not provide us with information. Good afternoon management, Please can you intervene. Mr Dawson asked that I copy him in all communication between myslelf, Wesbank ,Santam and management. Kind regards Robyn So now i am to believe that FNB Insurance brokers who take the money from my account do not know which product they sold me??? Now i have to contact Hollard as they might have sold me a Hollard product....or was it Santam? This is getting more bizarre by the day, guess my only option would be the OSTI route or legal action. But yeah, banks think the normal public dont have the time or money to take them on......watch this space, once i get started i will not settle or back down....
