Account threatened with suspension - FICA

In 2015 my business opened an account at FNB. All requested documents, including all the requirements with regard to FICA were met and the account was opened.

This account remained opened will October 2016 until I received a message that the account was to be suspended as FICA documents were not provided. FNB was contacted and the documents that they required supp****. However, no one could provide clarity as to how the account was opened without the requisite documents and why it had remained opened will that point.

Today I received a sms advising me that my account will be suspended within 2 days due to FICA requirements not having been met. A no point had the bank contacted us or make requests for further documents. Instead the account remained open until this notice which with the unreasonable ultimatum.

My questions as to how the account was opened in the first place and why if I had supp**** suplementary documents previously my account was threated with closure could not be answered. My request to have someone, who could answer my questions, was also refused. The only advice that I was given is to go to the branch and there try and have the matter clarified. This the same branch who did not contact us werein, who opened the account in the first place and who received the supplementary documents!

Our business and I presume countless others are now being held hostage by either FNB's incompetence or ineptitude. If additional documents are indeed required then the fault lies with teh bank that had 2 opportunties to correct their oversight. Now we their clients are being punished and our very livlihood threatened.

Reviewer Update

The complaint resulted in someone calling me from FNB and advising me what documents needed to be submitted. They could not answer my question as to how the account was opened in the first place without the correct documents or why the supplementary documents that I provided in October 2016 were not sufficeint.

However, I was set the documents that I need to complete which was done and returned to them. I then asked if they could confirm that they now have ALL the requisite FICA documents and that they would not bother me again. On Tuesday 11 July 2017, I received the following from Laryssa Du Preez:

Good day,

Please see the below feedback from QA.

Alls in order now.

Thank you so much for submitting documents.

Thank you,

However, new evidence that has come to light would now prove that I was foolish to take this assurance to hear. This morning I received the following sms:

FNB :-) Urgent: Due to non-submission of FICA/KYC documents, a transactional hold has been placed on the accounts for RAYMOND FRANCOIS HAU. We want to help you unfreeze your account. Please contact us on ********** 405. Ref# ********** 3. FNB a div of FRB Ltd.

Consequently, our bank account has been suspended because I had the gall to contact FNB, request and be provided with the necessary documentation, filled in and sign the documents, sent it to them and asked for confirmation that no more documents were required and given that assurance.

So good to know that our bank, which we diligently pay is looking out for our best interests. Thank to their "assistance" businesses can and will die.
