ACCOUNT TERMINATION WITHOUT A REASON
NOTICE OF TERMINATION OF RELATIONSHIP WITH FNB Termination of FNB banking relationship I received an email from FNB with a notice of termination of banking relationship stating my account will be closed.
The email gives no reason for closing my account. I queried it and I received a response stating that they will not give me the reason. I think that is absolutely pathetic.
I do not understand why FNB wants to close my account or at least cannot tell me why. In the email it states that FNB viewed the risk that would be introduced as a result of a continued banking relationship with me to be outside of its risk appetite. I do not understand what risk this could be. I am a young working professional with absolutely no risk. I have no complex business / income structures and I am happy to engage with FNB to provide whatever documentation is necessary i.e. tax returns, payslips, letters from employer etc. I stated this in my follow up email, but no response.
I think the least FNB can do is inform me of the reason or provide some information at least. I read an article recently where a Durban businessman is suing FNB for R103m for financial defamation. He was merely suspected of ***** (not convicted, merely suspected by FNB) and placed on an anti-***** database operated by the SA ***** Prevention Services (SAFPS) which is shared by banks and retailers.
I am concerned that something else is wrong on my name which I am unaware of i.e. identity theft. There's so many data hacks recently and I'm concerned I might be implicated in some form of identity theft. If FNB cannot advise the reasons for closing my account, I would appreciate at least knowing whether they have placed me on this SAFPS list or anything similar. I have expressed my concerns to FNB and asked them if they can at least tell me if I've been placed on any blacklist, but no response of course.
I cannot see what risk I pose as I am an ethical young professional without any complex structures and I am extremely concerned that something else is wrong which I am unaware of. I am extremely disappointed with FNB. Not what you would expect from "SA's best business bank". I will surely be lodging a complaint with the ombudsman.
