Account Settled but FNB Cannot Confirm Payment or Provide Paid-Up Letter

I am extremely frustrated with the lack of assistance and inconsistent information received from FNB regarding the settlement of **account *****.

My first email to the Debt Review Centre ([***](mailto:***)) was sent on **5 March**, and I only received an automated acknowledgement. Since then, I have attempted to follow up through the secure messaging service with the debt review team.

Unfortunately, the responses have been **inconsistent and unclear**. I have been told at different times that the matter would take **24 hours**, **2 business days**, and **5 business days**. Most recently, I was advised to wait an additional **2 business days**, which contradicts the earlier timelines given.

What is particularly frustrating is that **no one has been able to confirm whether the payment has been received or not**, which should be a simple query to answer.

When I check my FNB banking app, the **account shows a zero balance and the settlement amount appears in the transaction history**, which suggests that the payment has already been processed. However, despite this, I cannot get a clear confirmation or an update on when the **paid-up letter** will be issued.

This paid-up letter is required so that I can provide it to my **debt counsellor** to ensure the account is **excluded from the next collection cycle**.

All I am asking for is: • Confirmation that the settlement payment has been received and processed. • An indication of **when the paid-up letter will be issued**. • **Clear and realistic timelines** for resolving this request.

At this point, the lack of communication and inconsistent information from service agents has become extremely frustrating. I would appreciate urgent assistance in resolving this matter.

Thank you for the response and for providing reference ***NF.
However, the email I received after this complaint was logged states that FNB is “committed to addressing the matter within 5 business days.” This effectively introduces yet another waiting period, after I have already been given multiple different timelines by your service agents (24 hours, 2 business days, and 5 business days).
My initial request was sent on 5 March, and the issue remains unresolved.
What I struggle to understand is why it is taking this long to confirm something that appears very straightforward. The payment is clearly visible on my FNB banking app, the account reflects a zero balance, and the settlement transaction appears in the account history.
All that is required is:
• Confirmation that the payment has been received and processed.
• Issuing the paid-up letter.
This is a single document that I require in order to provide it to my debt counsellor, so that the account can be excluded from the next collection cycle.
At this stage, automated responses and new timelines are not helping resolve the matter. I would appreciate urgent confirmation of the payment status and a clear indication of when the paid-up letter will be issued.

I have now received the following email from FNB regarding complaint ***NF:

“Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to investigate your matter.
This notification confirms that your complaint has now been closed.
Should you have any concerns, please call ***.
Regards,
FNB”

This is extremely concerning because my issue has not been resolved at all.
I still have not received confirmation that the settlement payment has been processed, nor have I received the paid-up letter for account ***. These were the very reasons the complaint was lodged in the first place.

All that is required from FNB is:
  1. Confirm that the settlement payment has been received and processed.
  2. Issue the paid-up letter so that I can provide it to my debt counsellor, ensuring the account is excluded from the next collection cycle.

The payment is already visible on my FNB banking app, the account balance shows zero, and the settlement transaction appears in the account history.
Closing a complaint without resolving the matter is unacceptable. I request that this matter be reopened and resolved urgently, with clear timelines for the paid-up letter.
