Absolutely the Worst Bank Ever!!!
My mom is 82 years old. She sold her house and decided to invest the money in a fixed deposit with FNB. On Friday 29th July she opened a fixed deposit account online and called the call centre and confirmed with Ketso that she had opened it all correctly but since it would take more than 24 hours for the money to transfer from Absa, he told her they would make her new fixed deposit account inactive. He told her to move the money from Absa into her Easy Account first and then open a fixed deposit account, which she duly did. On Sat 30 July, the money cleared into her Easy account, so she opened a new fixed deposit account and tried to transfer the money. The system would not allow her to do so and there is no call centre available for help over weekends, so she had to wait until Mon. On Mon 1st Aug, she called the call centre and spoke to Emily, who advised her to transfer half the funds and then do another transfer for the rest. My mom transferred the first half but the second half wouldn't transfer, so Emily put my mom through to Elvida. She told my mom you cannot transfer in batches to a fixed deposit, so she was going to transfer the money back to the Easy account and close the fixed deposit account and then start all over again. She promised to call my mom back but never did. In the afternoon, my mom called the call centre again and spoke to Lebogang, who promised to follow up and call my mom before COB. Of course, he never did. My mom then received an sms advising her to call a number to resolve an issue. She called and spoke to Carmen who said the money was on hold until they received proof from my mom of where she got the income from. My mom had to email a lawyers letter proving the sale of her property and also proof of the money going into her Absa account. My mom emailed this. On Tues 2nd Aug (please note we are now 5 days into this debacle), Asanda from the ***** division advised she had taken her block off but there were still other issues and she would personally try to resolve them. As of 1pm on Tues, still no joy. Asanda called my mom just to ask if the bank had called her yet - her best advice - go into a branch and see if you can resolve this problem. So, although FNB CLAIM you can do everything online, you actually can't. And my mom has been told that FNB will not backpay the interest for the money that they have had for 4 days but refuse to invest for her. The most appalling service we have ever experienced - my mom should have left her money in Absa and just invested it there!!!
