Absolutely shocked !!!!!

I have been a FNB customer for many years. Recently I decided to pay up all my debt & no longer use the cheque accounts, so I app**** online for a new savings account.

A call center agent called me and I completed the application, he advised that my card will be at the Olympus Pretoria branch within 5 working days. I recently got married and asked the consultant whether he can open the account with my new married surname, he advised me that due to the cheque accounts I had and the information on the system he will only be able to open the account in my ****en surname and I can then make the change the day I collect my card at the branch. I was happy with that, I specifically told him that I no longer have a ID in my ****en surname but only a new one with my married surname, he confirmed that this will not be a problem at all, all I needed according to him was my new ID and proof of residence.

After 5 days I called the Olympus branch and confirmed that my card is ready for collection. They got my card ready and I provided them with my new ID and proof of residence, only to be told that they will not be able to activate my account or give me the card as they either need an original ID in my ****en surname or the original marriage certificate. I advised her that I only have a copy of my marriage certificate as I have not yet received the original by post from the lawyers. Once again they refused to activate my account, as they insisted on me showing them either an ID in my ****en surname or the original marriage certificate.

I fail to understand why a copy of my anti nuptial contract and my new ID would be not sufficient !!! I obtained an ID from The Department of Home Affairs, which confirmed that I was married and therefore issued me with a new ID !!!!!!

This is completely unacceptable do you also require blood & urine tests????????????????????????????????????????

So at the moment I am without a bank account and also unable to receive my SARS pay out due to this debacle.

If this matter is not resolved soon, I will not hesitate to go to another bank and move my husband’s accounts over from FNB to one of the othetr banks !!!!
