5 Year Struggle of credit Card issue
On 15 January 2013 I went to see a debt counsellor. I completed a form in order for them to retrieve my settlement amounts. The 16th of January 2013 I cancelled the debt review process as I could manage.
A written email from FNB Debt review centre was received on 21 January stating "We acknowledge receipt of form 17.4 and would like to advise you that the consumer has been removed under debt review on 16 January 2013. Within the Month of February 2013 FNB handed my Credit Card over to their legal department in which they had a 3rd party collecting the debt. This after them stating that all was removed. They also never had a court order to place me under debt review in the first place but received a response that this is their company process... not my problem.
After numerous calls etc. and excessive unrealistic charges added from the lawyers I filed a complaint through the Ombudsman. Only on 22 April 2014, a year later, I received correspondence from FNB stating that the legal costs have been cancelled as well as my credit card account has been retrieved from the lawyers but will remain blocked until fully paid however then my Credit Card account appeared back into my profile where I could check/pay through my online banking. I then accepted this as I knew that I have to pay what I owe in accordance to my monthly instalment. I never missed any payments. Within 2015 I settled the account and the credit card was no longer visible to me. I did not request a settlement letter (my failure) however I have never heard anything again from FNB since the formal letter. After the settlement of the account, I could again apply for vehicle finance in which I bought 2 cars within the 3 year period thereafter as well as Overdraft and Personal Loans, All at FNB. They even gave me another credit card with a limit of over R100K. No red flags were raised, My ITC record is Excellent.
To date I am applying for a home loan and to my amazement FNB stated that they cannot process my application due to an adverse credit card. So now the entire process is starting again since 2013 and in the interim I am going to lose out on buying a home as the OTP is going to expire soon. Again trying to get hold of a living person and finally was requested to talk to FNB Legal. For 2 days no one has answered never the less have I managed to speak to a human being in this department as all I need is a settlement letter to state that this account is settled and closed!
I have depleted all avenues, Lodging Queries, Ombudsman, FNB Complaints etc. What Next? Legal Action against FNB? More time, more money.... and maybe after I retire this stupid dispute can be resolved.
a 5 Year struggle continuing! No words to describe my frustration and anger to something so simple for such a massive company.
