19 days and still waiting for a reversal of a duplicate debit

I am extremely disappointed with FNB's handling of a very straightforward issue.

On 5 August 2026, I discovered that I had been debited twice for the same transaction. I contacted FNB and requested a reversal of the duplicate debit.

When I followed up, I was told that there was a backlog with reversals. I understand that backlogs can happen, but it is unacceptable that a major bank such as FNB can take this long to return funds that were incorrectly deducted from my account.

Today is 24 August 2026, meaning I have been waiting 19 calendar days for my money to be returned. Despite following up, I still have no resolution.

What makes this particularly frustrating is that this is not a complicated dispute. The transaction was duplicated, the issue was reported, and I am simply waiting for the excess amount to be reversed.

I have been an FNB customer and expected a much better level of service. A "backlog" should not mean that customers have to wait weeks for their money to be returned without a clear resolution date.

FNB, please resolve this matter and return my funds.

My question is simple: How long does a customer have to wait to get their own money back when the bank has acknowledged the problem?

I acknowledge receipt of the complaint reference ***NF.
However, I would like to point out that this matter was originally reported on 5 August 2026, when I requested the reversal of a duplicate debit from my account.
I was subsequently informed that there was a backlog with reversals. I have therefore already been waiting for 19 calendar days for my funds to be returned.
I appreciate that a formal complaint has now been logged, but my concern is that it took this public complaint for the matter to be formally escalated.
I would appreciate it if FNB could provide a specific timeframe for the resolution and reversal of the duplicated funds, rather than simply referring the matter to another department.
I look forward to receiving feedback under reference ***NF and, most importantly, to having the duplicated funds returned.
