Unreasonable claim outcome/Poor communication

I recently claimed for water damage. The claim included 3 items being my Tv, Duvet inner and Persian carpet. The assessor who had been appointed to evaluate/ pick up the damaged items mentioned took 5 days to come. In the event of him not coming the carpet and inner were ****** in the back yard. The value of the carpet when it was purchased cost me R10500, the senior consultant (Ronell) advised that they’d only be able to settle R3000of the amount claimed, simply because it was now considered as an item ****** from the washing line and the value of a entry level Persian carpet. Which makes no sense to me, had Johan picked up the items claimed for in due time this would’ve not occurred. I asked Ronell to produce a quotation of how much the Persian carpet cost when it was bought, but she advised that this wouldn’t be considered as an invoice or proof of purchase. I’m not sure who keeps an invoice over 5years. Johan from Allsure couldn’t come pick up or assess the the damaged goods because apparently he felt the area where the insured items are kept was not safe for him to come on Monday. I don’t know how this is my Problem, because 1st for women has never had an issue debiting from my account knowing fully where the items are kept.

I visited the store where the carpet was bought, and as advised before they’re unable to provide me with an invoice of the Carpet because I’d be lying if I were to say which date exactly the carpet was bought. The only thing they’re able to provide me with would be a quotation. I spoke to one of the salesperson in store and they advised that I was under quoted. I have no idea how you people concluded that the carpet is an entry level Persian carpet. I asked to take pictures in store of a carpet that was slightly smaller than mine, but that of the same modern design as the one I had. I will attach it. The name of the store is Oriental Rugs.

Above is the email I sent through to 1st for Women’s complaint/dispute department. Corine Van Tonder now being the one handling my complaint sent me an email saying that they would review and reconsider the outcome. She then sent me an email on the 3rd August 2020 requesting the size of my carpet to have them reconsider the settlement amount. I provided her with what she had asked. The following day she sent an email stating that she “ reviewed the matter and drafted the outcome, however I am just awaiting approval on the letter and will send same to you soonest.” On the very same day 4th August 2020 she sent me an email stating that the final outcome was still the very same amount that I disputed and mentioned that their assessor Johan had come on the day that was scheduled which is untrue. And that my complaint was now finalized and a case closed. No one has contacted me ever since and the number that she provided me with ‭***‬ Goes straight to voicemail.

I am still unhappy with this outcome for so many reasons, merely because everything about my claim has been a hassle and very unpleasant. I am yet to hear another silly excuse as to why a claim that was brought forward to this company on the 10th of July 2020 has still not been finalized. This completely defeats the purpose of having insurance.

After having to write to Hello Peter, only then Corine called with no real reasons that made sense to me as to why the outcome of the settlement was what it was. I am in dismay of how you people handled my claim. And I will make sure that people on all public platforms are aware of how this company misleads people and make as if you’re doing clients a favour when the service from your side is questionable. I can’t imagine Zozibini Tunzi wanting to be the face of such a company, I doubt it aligns with her brand. Because it is definitely not “1st for all Women” more especially of colour. For some silly reason Corine thinks she’s doing me a favour, when what I really need is answers that are reasonable.

I would like someone of higher authority to contact me. My grievances with Corine clearly do not matter, probably because I am black and the items insured are not kept in a fancy suburb.
