Insurance Claim

Sorry for posting this here on Hello Peter - however, i'm not getting any feedback regarding my claim. All my emails returns (on the claims email, dispute resolution, online assitance etch)

3 Weeks after we moved into our new home we were ****** while we were in the house – We were only renting on a short term basis (contract of 6 months as we are planning to buy).

When we moved in I updated my details on First for Woman online service – As I hung up the curtains downstairs I was standing on the window sill and holding on to the burglar bars so when the question popped up if we had burglar bars I did say yes – however it turns out that not all the windows had burglar bars. The house had connection points for an alarm system but this was not connected (I did state so on the update). Since we just moved we were waiting for month end to connect as this was over R2000 quoted as some of the parts had to be replaced and the cabling was also not correct.

Somehow my Fiance’s spare keys to the house went missing with the company car spare keys – this was not noticed as we only use the company bakkie on odd occasions since we both work in Midrand/Kyalami and commute in one car.

I have been paying insurance since 2010 with Hollards and moved over to First for Woman last year around April – I am not someone that claims for nothing however I did submit a claim in Jan for a broken TV. This claim paid out after the robbing incident.

Every single electronic or tecnilogical device my Fiance and I gathered over the past 15 years have been ******. In short the list entails:

3 Laptops – (2 company laptops that was claimed for by my company insurance) and then one personal one.

2 Tv’s – a 40” Samsung and a 46” Samsung tv.

1 Xbox one ( the Kinect was not ****** but the cable was cut – so the telesure consultant said I must add it on the claim as we won’t be able to use it)

Xbox 360

2 x Ipads ( an ipad air 2 – and a ipad 2 retina display).

Out of my handbag the following was taken

My Samsung gear 2 watch

My Ipod Nano 7th generation

My Camera

The claim was submitted right after the incident and since the telesure consultant came to my house – I have not heard a single thing from the insurance.

I phoned in twice after the status of my claim went to rejected on online and then the reference is (MONEY) as claim type. I am not asking for money. However, I have lost every single valuable in my house so I cannot just accept a rejected (and worse no feedback as to why).

First time I phoned in the consultant gave the whole speech about how she is qualified to assist (after which there was a period of silence and her suggesting a senior consultant should phone). STILL WAITING

A week went by and I phoned in again and the consultant told me that I must get the report from Cobus ( who was the telesure consultant). I have been communicating with Cobus who said that the insurance will get back to me. Now after I have asked Cobus again that the insurance said he must assist he phoned me back only on the 14th stating that he was on the road but he will send the report later the day. On the 14th I sent him a message again asking for the report where he responded with “Yes Mam”. Still nothing received

In our last conversation Cobus stated that since I said that there were burglar bars in the house and the point of entry was through a window – the insurance cannot pay out.

However, I feel, since the ******s had the keys to my house and was able to access the house before the break in (which they did; as they bent the window latch so it could not be shut (therefore preparing the house for the break in, we would not have been able to prevent the break in anyways – because as Cobus himself stated – you can build a fort and if they want to come in they will – no matter how many security measures you put in place. Point is – if we had burglar bars on all the windows (but they still had the keys to the house) they would have broken in anyways no matter the point of entry.

After the break in we installed a security gate in the hallway (as we were not separated from the rest of the house during the break in and I have two small kids (2 and 4) and we now fear for our lives) we also installed the security system connected to the control room. However, we did give notice and we will be moving to a new, more secure home.

I do admit to my mistake regarding the burglar bars – however, we lost everything and it will take us years to replace – I have been paying my insurance non-stop since 2010 and I feel offended that First for Woman is looking for the one reason not to pay out instead of looking for ways to assist – I do understand that there are people taking advantage from insurance companies – but no one plans on being ****** with their little ones in the house and losing everything they own.

Please see if you can assist? I cannot just accept a online status of rejected without any communication from First for Woman and a Telesure consultant that does not provide feedback or reports to the case as well.

Truely disappointed.
