Impossible to Cancel Home Insurance Policy

We sold our house and I have tried numerous times to cancel my home insurance with 1st for Women. I have called them three times and have given the policy number and was positively identified. Each time, after indicating I want to cancel the policy, I am put through to their "Retention Department" where I have held on for about 30 minutes each time before the call is terminated from their side without answering. I then tried a new tactic. I called them and asked whether I can put the request in via email. I have done so and received no response. I have sent through the request two more times, still with no response. It seems to be impossible to cancel a policy with 1st for Women? This is the first time I cancel a policy with them, which rather makes me think I should go to the Complaints Board and ask for assistance to cancel all of them.
