Excess dispute
My mom pays a premium for portable items, in addition to household contents. She specified mobile phone to which she also pays a premium for, while laptops are listed as portable items. The laptop was affected by load shedding, and damaged as confirmed due to the power surge. The laptop is covered under portable items, and as is standard, portable items will hands down almost always end up being kept at home over night, to avoid any theft. When proceeding with the claim, my mom was informed that she would now have to pay excess on the power surge for the laptop, under household contents because the laptop was at home when it was damaged.Forgetting that the item is portable and during the day may very well be used in a place that too is affected by load shedding and that damage is caused over time, not just as a one off, especially with load shedding.Going through her policy, and power surge is not listed under the portable items as an additional excess, yet they are charging her for it, and then to top it off, they too are charging her the excess amount for household insurance rather that portable item excess. Why does this seem rathe runfair and like she is being **********?!
