Ethical or ********* business practice - You decide...

I would not recommend FFW to anyone. I have taken a few days to reflect on this review however I feel that I need to warn potential customers to be careful in trusting this insurance company. On 2 March, I had two devices struck by a freak lightning storm in Johannesburg. I registered a claim on the same day. One of the devices was my laptop, which is my bread and butter. If I don't work, I don't get paid. On the same day, an advisor was assigned and the process was explained. Problem is that they use an external provider (Paragon) to assess the damage. I explained that my laptop was critical to no avail. I then took my laptop to a provider to recover the data and do an assessment. This assessment was accepted however the other device still had to go through the process. On Friday, 4 March the provider collected this device and the report was only send to FFW on Tuesday, 8 March. I was contacted on Thursday, 10 March with an outcome that this was indeed lightning damage (at this stage, it was now 8 days later). I then received a call with the settlement amounts - I questioned this as I was fully aware what the replacement value of the devices was. It then came to light that FFW used the incorrect specs in getting the quotes - they do not know the difference between a i5 laptop and an i7 laptop and also does not know that 512GB is different to a 1TB hard drive. After a lot of back and forth, it came to light that the specs provided by Paragon for the one device was incorrect (not very honest at all) and that the specs used on the other device used by FFW was also incorrect (really?). I had to send photo's of the original packaging to proof my point - like I was the dishonest one... This claim was only settled on Tuesday, 15 March - 14 days after the claim was raised! 14 days of lost income... Do your homework potential clients, other insurance companies take 3 - 7 days to settle claims. Definitely not a company that I would recommend to my friends and family so just a heads-up, take note of their business practices.
