Considering Switching Car Insurance? Here's My Experience with First for Women (Not Great)
This review is tailored for those contemplating a switch in insurance providers, particularly if considering First for Women, or for current customers yet to lodge a claim. I want to preface this by acknowledging that individual experiences with insurance companies can vary widely. While some may have had positive encounters with First for Women, regrettably, mine was far from satisfactory. Despite the glitzy advertising campaigns and celebrity endor*****ts, the reality fell short of expectations. Let me recount my ordeal: Last year, I found myself in a car accident. Fast forward to today, 16 May 2024, my claim remains unfinalized (though today I received a text message from First for Women telling me that they hope I’m satisfied with the finalization of my claim), a staggering seven months later. What ensued was a series of frustrations and disappointments. Following the accident, my car was towed to their facility for assessment. What followed was a disheartening saga of miscommunication and unfulfilled promises. Various consultants bombarded me with contradictory information, leaving me in a state of perpetual confusion. The assigned assessor proved to be unreliable and unprofessional. He frequently forgot about my case and seemed irritated by my inquiries. Instead of providing updates, he often redirected me to third-party entities, exacerbating my frustration. First for Women's lack of a coherent strategy for managing third-party services only compounded the issue. My vehicle was shuttled between five different providers, each specializing in different aspects of repair. Despite assurances, progress was painfully slow, with weeks passing without any tangible updates. Moreover, the insurance's blind trust in third-party assessments led to further complications. When issues arose with the quality of repairs, my concerns were dismissed in favor of the third party's assertions. It took a formal complaint to the ombudsman for the insurance to take my grievances seriously. Communication breakdowns between branches in Johannesburg and Cape Town further exacerbated the situation. Critical information often failed to transfer between staff members, resulting in delays and frustrations for customers like myself. The claims process was anything but smooth. Absences due to illness left me stranded, as key personnel failed to pass on vital information to their colleagues. This was particularly evident when seeking an extension for a courtesy car, leaving me to fend off demands from the rental company to return their car. In sum, my seven-month ordeal with First for Women was a harrowing experience marked by stress and frustration. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend their services to anyone. It's clear they have significant improvements to make in terms of communication, accountability, and customer service.
