Complaint against First for woman insurance: None payment of claim.
My mother is insured with 1st for woman. A few weeks ago on her way back from a meeting a car came up driving on ahead in front of her, possible head on collision. For her own safety she swayed to the right in the opposite lane and ended up hitting against something. The driver in the other car did not bother to stop. Its was dark, she was alone, shocked and shaken by the whole experience she decided to drive straight home. When she got home she saw that the car was been badly hit on her side, the door could no longer open properly as well. Saturday morning we drove the car to the nearest mall about 5km from my house to test drive the car. We noticed that the car was not as stable on the road as before and also there was a rubbery smell. We assumed the smell came from the impact side as the fender has been hit and the tyre was now rubbing against the cover. Monday afternoon we than notice that the car was getting worse, it was losing power on the road, especially when changing gears from the 2nd to the 3rd and so forth. Wednesday afternoon around lunch time my mother was coming back from her Dr's appointment we noticed that there was smoke coming out from the gear lever, she than decided to immediately call the insurance, the car was toured that very some afternoon. The next day she was called by an Assessor who identified himself as Vincent from East London offices, he told my mother that the preliminary report states that the car had hit another car as there where black marks left behind. She informed him that those black marks he was seeing had been there before the accident, when she took up the insurance in 2018 pictures of the car were taken at PG glass Pretoria and those pics clearly show all the marks and paint chapping that had been in the car. First for woman had requested my mother to take the car to PG Glass to complete her insurance application in 2018, this is why she had referred Vincent to PG Glass. After 12 days without a car and waiting for the insurance to get back to us, Vincent on the 15 April 2019 after 17h00 called and informed my mother that the insurance had declined her claim because she had not informed them that she was now in East London. The insurance has been taken while she was at home in Pretoria and thats the address they have. When my mother took up the insurance she was not informed that every time she drove out of Gauteng she had to inform the insurance. She had been in East London for about 2 months helping me settling in after taking up a new job. Her claim has been declined purely on those basis. Her premiums are up to date Premiums in GP are far more expensive compared to Eastern Cape premiums and yet she paid all the premiums as previously agreed She has 2 premium/ covers with First for woman paying in R796.00 and R150.96 on the other. We feel that the decision to not cover for the accident is highly unfair and should kindly be reconsidered. Please help us.
