1st for Women avoids paying out claims for burst geysers
I have house insurance with 1st for Women and pay a monthly instalment of R1184.72 just to insure my house - not the contents, but the house. Yesterday our solar geyser burst and I contacted 1st for Women to ask what the procedure is to claim for the damage and a new geyser as like any normal person I would assume the geyser forms part of the building and is therefore covered by my house insurance. Unfortunately this is not the case at 1st for Women. Despite me paying a huge instalment monthly to insure my building for the past 7 years, my geyser is in fact not covered. I cannot remember anyone stipulating this fact when I took out the insurance. They informed me yesterday that for a mere R26.75 extra a month I can add my geyser to the insurance. Why would any insurer charge an extra add on for R26.75 to include your geyser in your insurance if it is not to trick you. I am sure that burst geysers and resultant damage must be one of the most common claims when it comes to house insurance. So by making it an extra and not included in the package - this insurer is definitely making sure it does not have to pay one of the most common claims. I am not impressed by this at all and it really strikes me as a company trying to trick its customers to get away with not paying. So after paying more than R1000 monthly for more than 7 years, I cannot even claim for a new geyser. I have not claimed anything since 2015 but have also never received a no claims bonus or anything of the sort. Thanks for nothing 1st for Women. I will never recommend this insurer to anyone and I am going to cancel my policy with them.
