UNJUSTIFIED REFUELLING CHARGE
Engen garage at the PE airport is a few metres from the rental returns. We refuelled properly and completely to make sure we didn't incur refuelling charges. Same happened to me in February at this airport and branch of First, and I wanted to make very sure it didn't happen again, so we told the petrol attendant to fill the car to the brim. At First we asked David to check visually that the car was full and I still said I didn't want to see a refuelling charge as the car was absolutely full and experience had taught that this is a trick of theirs. He asked for the refuelling slip which we gave but their photocopier was out of order. We had a flight to catch so after 20 minutes we even suggested David take a picture of the slip with his phone and email it to himself later, which he refused. We then got him to write on the return paperwork that he agreed the car was properly full and signed it. We couldn't get a copy of this either as the photocopier still wasn't working. We've now got a bill for R41.83 for refuelling, which they refuse to reverse. This is either a deliberately *****ed practise at this branch or the staff are *****ing fuel. Never will they see us again.
At First Car Rental we strive to offer our valued customers a first class experience and we are appreciative of all comments and queries that are sent to us as they allow us the opportunity to look at our customers experiences and in doing so we are able to put procedures into place that will enable us to improve our services on an ongoing basis.
We would like to advise that regardless of what the fuel gauge says at time of return, each and every vehicle is sent from our branch to be refuelled to ensure that all of our customers receive a full tank of fuel upon collection. Although some of our clients do refuel before returning, the petrol attendants do not always fill the tank to capacity due to an airlock that often occurs which makes the tank appear full when it in fact is not. Upon standing the air escapes which leaves space for us to add fuel.
In this instance the tank was filled with 3.49 liters of fuel at R11-97 per litre bringing the refueling amount to R41-83.
Due to the above, the refuelling charges remain applicable.
