****** Rental Car

On the 6th of September 2019 my colleague Thobile and I were on our way back from one of our clients in Sasolburg. Immediately after the last fourway stop before the N1 on R554, we were overtaken by a white bakkie and the driver of that bakkie was waving a gun pointed at us and it seemed as though he was signalling for us to pull over. I then slowed down t allow him to pass as I was not sure why he was doing that. I had initially thought that it was either a road rage case or a racial attack. He then seemed to drive past and then return into our lane infront of us and forced us to stop by slowing down drastically.

I had no choice but to stop. The two white men in the bakkie ( the driver being one of them ) came out of their vehicles, guns drawn and and pointed at us. We got scared and I tried to do a u-turn to get away from them and then the driver fired 3 shots at us directly. I then left everything and the car switched off on its own. As I was watching what they were doing, my driver door opened and there was a number of other white males on my side ( about 5 of them all with guns drawn and pointed at us ). One of them aggressively pulled me out of the car and forced me to go face down on the tar pointing a gun on my head and as soon as I was on the grown he firmly put a knee on my back and held my right arm behind my back as he was starting to hand-calf me. I asked what was going on and then I was told that the car we had been driving on was ******. I told them that it was a rental car but he had already put one handcalf on me when the other guy instructed him to wait.

My colleague at this point was hysterical and was shouting for them to call the police because the car was a rental car. I was then told to stand up after another guy removed the half done handcalf. They then indicated to us that the car had initially been ****** and recovered but then the car might have not been properly cleared as it was still showing as a red flag on their phone. They had called the police by this time. We waited until police arrived and after we explained to the police and they also explained to the police we asked to be escorted to the police station where we opened an Attempted ****** case against the man who fired shots. We understand that he was arrested that day while we were writing our statement. We are not sure what the story is at this moment.

It is disturbing for such a thing to happen at the time when we are fighting against women abuse and these guys showed no mercy even to a black young woman while they were wrong. Also as disturbing to know that you can unsuspectingly hire a car from a prominent car hire brand and then be ****ed because of their sloppy work and laziness.Till this day, we have not heard a word from the rental car in question. We are seeking legal advise however Maybe this story can save an innocent life one day. These companies cannot do such and then continue business as usual. We are yet to even get an apology call from the rental company. Sad, very sad. Firstcar Rental
