Keep your deposit

Dear Simone, thank you for your professional dealing in this matter.

Some background for the readers - I paid the deposit for hiring the vehicle when I booked my wife's flight tickets to Cape Town. When you collect the car, you have to provide a credit card to pay for the deposit. She didn't have a credit card with her, only a debit card (or cash withdrawal if she needed to) and a company credit card. None of these were acceptable, only a credit card.

Regrettably, First Car Rental would rather penalize me for its own system shortcoming, than cement me as a loyal customer in returning this insignificant deposit. I was willing to make the deposit payment by credit card over the phone, or EFT or payment by debit card or payment by company card, but First Car Rental was only interested in the original credit card.

It is unfortunately short-sighted by your manager to refuse this refund (because God-forbid - its company policy!) and in doing so, lose me as a return customer.

And do not tell me the car was sitting there the entire day without someone hiring it - they are always booked out, unless you reserve well in advance.

We have recently witnessed through the Ford Kuga debacle, that good PR is not something you can buy, and that bad PR is actually, bad, for business.

I wish First Car Rental all the best and I truly hope that (free) R259 goes a lot further than all my (lost) future business combined.

Enjoy.

You closed the file, I remained unhappy.
Well done.
