Do not bother paying for the "executive" insurance as they will still make you pay for accidental damage

My parents rented a car from First car rental on the 20-22 May 2016 for a weekend away in Cape Town. They specifically paid extra for the so called "executive" insurance to cover them for any unfortunate accident. Unfortunately on their first day there while parked in a demarcated parking bay on the side of the road, a large truck drove past and knocked off the side mirror of the car but did not stop to acknowledge this. As my parents were walking back to the car at the time and witnessed this, they jumped into the car and tried to catch up with the truck to flag him down but were not able to thus leaving them with no 3rd party details for the cause of the damage. Despite reporting this immediately to First car rental, filling out a damage report and opening a case at the Franchhoek police station, First car rental are determined that their insurance will not cover the cost of the damage and that we are liable to cover the cost of the damage. I would like to know what the point is of being charge extra for the insurance if they can so easily just decide that they will not cover it and we must now pay R3200 for a new side mirror.

Apparently once again it's hidden somewhere deep in the fine print so just be aware in future that the so called "insurance" is worthless when renting a car from them and they will hold you liable for any damage.
