Tax Return Gone Wrong

Carrying out my tax return this year has not been the greatest... I paid for my initial tax return and then things went wrong.

So my previous employer made a mistake on my IRP 5 which we only found out after the initial submission to SARS, but I had kindly asked my tax consultant, twice ,to double check the IRP5 before the initial submission. The tax consultant confirmed, after SARS had completed the initial submission, that he had checked the IRP5 but still submittted the tax return with the incorrect IRP5.

So SARS carried out the return with the incorrect IRP5. I was then notified by SARS of the completion of my tax return, via SMS, which I immediately knew was incorrect as the return amount was too low. I then notified the tax consultant and told them that I think there is an issue and they must please let me know before they do anything as I would go to SARS myself to sort out the issue. I was then handed a bill of R3500 for the dispute sent to SARS, which I had kindly asked them not to do.

So now I am disputing the extra amount of R3500 and the tax consultant wants to blacklist me, as I do not want to pay for something that, in my opinion, could have been avoided. I was also told that submitting the incorrect IRP5 was just the correct procedure and that I must just pay the new disputed amount or else.

All it took to fix my IRP5 was a letter from my previous employer that took all of 5 minutes to complete.

Now because I was not informed of the incorrect IRP5 it has cost me 4 trips to SARS, potentially being blacklisted and a potential further R3500.
