Read this before you buy

I installed FinfFoor's saphire range of boards in my house and have regretted it ever since. After about 2 months, the floor started lifting in places, so I called the installer and he decided to get Finfloor involved. They came and did a detailed inspection and blamed the installer (who says he used a fitter supp**** to him by Finfloor), and said they would not honour their guarantee as the floor had not been installed to spec. This spec apparently changed after my floor was layed to include a waterproof layer that I was told was not required as the board was 100% waterproof. They gave me the option of getting a second, independent inspection done, but that it would cost about R3500. The installer subsequently went out of business, and I couldn't afford another 200k to redo the floor, so I was left with this mess. By this stage, boards were lifting throughout the house; my 80 yr old mother had to move out because of the tripping hazard, but the last straw was when my toddler started crawling on it and almost choked on a piece she managed to pull off one of the boards. So I bit the bullet, borrowed some money and decided to tile the main living areas and reuse some of the 'good boards' to replace the broken ones in the rest of the house. But when we lifted the floor, we discovered that the tongue and groove systems on all the boards had completely disintegrated. They literally crumble in your hands. There's no sign of damp or moisture whatsoever, and you can't blame the installation for this. It's clearly a substandard product or a fault with this batch. But I doubt Finfloor will ever admit to that. So, I'm leaving this review in the hope that if you're thinking about buying their products, consider my experience. And maybe ask your installer about their experiences when any of their customers try to claim on the 25 year guarantee.
