Paid-Up Account Resold to Another Debt Collector
I am writing as a concerned former FinChoice customer regarding an account that was previously handed over to MBD for debt recovery. The account was fully settled in April 2026 through MBD. Following payment, MBD provided me with a paid-up letter confirming that the account had been settled, and my credit profile was subsequently updated to reflect that the account had been paid in full.I have recently discovered, however, that FinChoice appears to have kept the same account open on its internal records and has subsequently sold or handed the account over to another debt collection agency for recovery.
This situation is extremely concerning and confusing to me. If MBD was authorised to collect the outstanding amount on behalf of FinChoice, and MBD subsequently confirmed in writing that the account was fully settled, I would like to understand why FinChoice's records allegedly still show an outstanding balance.I have contacted FinChoice regarding this matter and was informed that your records do not reflect the account as paid up. This directly contradicts the paid-up letter issued by MBD and the fact that my credit profile was updated to show that the account had been settled.I am particularly concerned about the possibility that this may not be an isolated administrative error. If an account can be paid in full, confirmed as paid up by the appointed debt collector, and updated on the customer's credit profile, only for the same account to later be pursued by another debt collector, then this raises serious concerns regarding the accuracy of FinChoice's account records and debt-collection processes.I look forward to receiving a clear and satisfactory explanation as to how a debt that was confirmed as settled could subsequently be referred to another debt collector.
