FinChoice refusing access to my own account information

I’m extremely concerned about how FinChoice handled my request.

I asked for basic information on my own loan account, including:

* Who is linked or registered on my account * Any access or changes made * Full personal data held about me

The consultant (Maria) gave conflicting answers — first confirming the information exists, then denying it. I was then told I must subpoena someone to get details about my own account, which is completely unreasonable.

To make matters worse, the consultant refused to provide her name, surname, or email address.

This goes against my rights under the Protection of Personal Information Act and the Promotion of Access to Information Act, which give me the right to access my personal information.

I am requesting:

* Full disclosure of all personal information held on my account * A record of any parties linked to my account * Any access logs or account changes * The contact details of the Information Officer

If this is not resolved urgently, I will escalate the matter to the Information Regulator South Africa and the National Credit Regulator.

This is unacceptable and needs immediate attention.

Hi

I am immensely dissatisfied with this whole issue. I app**** for a loan on Friday to discover *****ulent activity on my account and I am still yet to get a resolve on either.

Maria clearly stated on a recorded call that she will release the funds for the loan application. It’s yet to happen.

I explicitly asked her for her email address and last name but she refused to provide me with either- another alarming matter for me.

She contradicted herself multiple times over the recorded call, I want the call in question to be listened to by management as she is ***********, contradictory and has still not called me back after escalation as we discussed.

I expect a call from whomever is Maria’s manager to discuss the grossly inadequate service.

Further 3 of the call centre agents have disregarded my query and all 3 couldn’t even convey a simple message to Maria. So there is a clear issue with the level of competence.

I want my requested information by COB, Tuesday 21 April 2026 or I will be referring this matter to the National Credit Regulator. I will also share this entire incident over Social Media

FinChoice’s reply on 20 April was pure corporate fluff. They said they understood the urgency, admitted a “misunderstanding,” and promised to gather my personal data and follow up via email about progress and resolution.

That was yesterday.

Maria promised to call me back yesterday afternoon. Never happened.

Today – zero calls, zero emails, zero contact. Still no access to my own loan account details.

I asked for basic stuff I’m legally entitled to under POPIA and PAIA: who’s linked to my account, access logs, changes made, full personal data held on me, and the Information Officer’s contact details.

They gave me conflicting answers, then told me I’d have to subpoena someone for my own information. Then refused to even give Maria’s surname or email.

This isn’t a misunderstanding. This is refusal.

I’m still waiting. No more time. No more excuses.

Fix this today or I escalate straight to the Information Regulator and the National Credit Regulator.

It is now 15:02 and I have had no feedback at all.

Unacceptable.
