Fidelity ADT contract cancellation

They were very quick to sign up a month to month contract, but when I cancelled the contract, and gave a month's notice, they refused to accept that a month to month contract with them exists and stated that a penalty fee is applicable due to the early termination of a 36 month contract! I scanned and sent them the contract, and they still did not recognize or accept it, and continued billing me!
