I opened an account with you on the 28th of February on the Mattress Warehouse website where you advertised payment options of 3, 6, or 12 months (bear in mind 18 and 24 months were not mentioned) also including the average monthly payment amounts. Naturally, I clicked on the option that would suit me best followed all your instructions, and sent through documents as requested. My application of R 5000.00 was approved about a day later and I processed my online purchase and my mattress was delivered. A day or two after the delivery I got a statement that stated that I had taken this bed on 24 months with a 22.25%, which is quite shocking. I immediately called and asked for an explanation as no one called to confirm the finer details, the agent on the other side said to me not to worry he would refer this matter to the relevant department and come back to me. Today I got the call and was told that my 6 months period was declined on the premises of affordability. OK, Fevertree if this is the case: 1. Why did you approve my application in the first place 2. Why wasn't I called and advised and given my options so that I can agree or disagree with your terms? 3. Who permitted you to make a financial decision on my behalf?
These were the questions asked to your agent today and his responses were well we are not a bank... an awkward silence . . . and this is how Fevertree works. So Fevertree, I am asking you the same questions.
With all due respect, I still get asked at all of my retail accounts whether I want a 6 or 12-month payment option. My credit card also has an option of straight or budget facility option. Even when you apply for a loan for so much more than R 5000.00, they ask for the duration, do a credit analysis, and then either approve or decline and still give you options.
So Fevertree, kindly explain this to me. Point me in the right direction of your T & C where it says you have the right to make important financial decisions on behalf of your clients WITHOUT ANY PRIOR notice.

FeverTree does not offer a 12 month account for Mattress Warehouse. There is only a 6 or 24 month term that you can choose from when applying for the account. The options are given and terms are highlighted during the application process (repayment term and interest rate) which you have to accept as part of signing up for the account, and before you can be approved for an account. We also follow a strict due diligence process where we contact you telephonically to do security questions, and take the opportunity to answer any of your questions. The term and amount that is approved is based on various strict regulatory checks to ensure that we are granting credit to you responsibly.
We value having you as a customer and aim to make your purchases more affordable by offering the repayment choices of 6 or 24 months at Mattress Warehouse. You will be able to settle your account earlier without any penalties, so you will be able to pay it off over 12 months if you choose to do so.
