Ridiculously high administration fee for customs

I regularly ship items from the US and I've noticed that they charge an exorbitantly high administration fee of R380 to clear your packages through customs.

I had previously seen the R380 charge on an invoice, with the code AF1 app**** which I can now see is for the administration fee, which I previously thought was a SARS code for duty on the goods.

My complaint is three-fold:

1) I actually pay to ship this stuff via TNT, I don't expect there to be added costs to clear the item. There is a customs declaration when I ship, so it should be included in the price I pay.

2) The actual amount being charged is way too high - DHL levies a R150 \Disbur*****t Fee\" - the TNT rate is 253% higher than this. I paid $45.23 or R692 to ship a package from the US, and the admin fee adds a whopping 55% to the cost?!

3) Knowing the fee is applicable in the destination country, the shipper and receiver should be made aware of the hidden cost from the outset as it has a big impact on the overall cost of the shipment, and therefore the choice to use TNT as the courier.

"
