No delivery and zero communication
I ordered an electronic device from overseas, which is essential for me to continue working from home. The item was shipped without a problem, however, once it arrived in South Africa it was sent to the Elandsfontein depot with no further movement. The delivery date was scheduled for today (29th) so I decided to make contact with TNT to find out what is happening, as the supplier didn't know either. I got a short email response saying that my parcel will not be delivered until I give them proof that I have an essential service permit.
Firstly, I do not see how it is relevant for me to have a permit in order to receive a parcel (I have had no problem getting other items delivered that are essential to working from home). TNT is the entity that has a permit to continue offering a service and nowhere does it say they will withhold parcels due to COVID-19.
Secondly, is it acceptable practice to simply not inform clients of any issues/delays whatsoever? You indicate a delivery date/time, with seemingly no intention of honouring that.
You have the platform/means to keep your clients fully updated, use it!
