Loss of goods

I was expecting a package and FedEx was the preferred courier company to deliver my package due to the reputation that they have in the industry. I am however, disappointed that when my package was delivered, nobody signed for it and I found my package in the Post Box by the gate. It is more disturbing that the package was open and my goods were not in the package. Can I please get clarity on why I was not called before the package was delivered. My TRK# ***03. May someone please advise how I get my goods back because I had paid for them but I did not receive them - THANKS TO FEDEX
