If faced with a choice - choose DHL every time
Maybe FEDEX in the continental US is a good company, but the South African operation is terrible. You cannot call a call centre and speak with a person, as you can with DHL. When you use their online contact tools, there is no reply. I am waiting 14 days for a package couriered from HK - admittedly there were delays with China sitting on the parcel, but it has been sitting at CPT DC for 5 days, and I have still not received any notification on when I can expect delivery
