FedEx South Africa - Systematic Failure in Customs Documentation and Support
FedEx has provided one of the most disappointing customer experiences I have encountered in years. As an importer, I am frequently forced to use their services because our overseas suppliers choose them, but the lack of basic operational competence is staggering.
The core issues are:
Missing Documentation: They consistently deliver shipments without the necessary customs documents required to validate payments with SARS.
Non-existent Communication: Emails and queries are systematically ignored. I rarely receive a response on the first attempt; it often takes seven or more follow-ups to get a single reply.
Inadequate Support: The call center agents are either unable to assist or the line simply disconnects mid-conversation.
Reliability and documentation are non-negotiable in international trade. FedEx is failing on both fronts, turning what should be a standard delivery into a days-long administrative nightmare. I would avoid this service at all costs if given the choice.

Good day FedEx Clearance Team, I am formally disputing the clearance of the above-mentioned shipment. The parcel was released and delivered without our approval of the SAD500, resulting in a significant declaration error.
- Valuation Error: The Bill of Entry reflects a VAT amount of 2.70, which is incorrect. We hold a commercial invoice and proof of payment to the supplier that contradicts this value.
- Process Failure: FedEx failed to contact us to complete the customs clearance request, depriving us of the opportunity to ensure the declaration was accurate for SARS compliance.
- Correction Requirements: We require an immediate Voucher of Correction (VOC) to reflect the true value of the goods so that we can perform our payment validation with SARS.
- Liability: As this error stems from FedEx’s failure to consult the importer of record, we will not be held liable for any VOC fees or penalties associated with this correction.
