Extremely unreliable.
I receive shipments from China regularly. When doing so I use DHL mostly but from time to time use FedEX and TNT. Between the three carries TNT is by far the most unreliable. DHL comes out top with FedEX sitting in the middle. It's odd that my experience with FedEX is so different to that of TNT because they are supposed to be the same company. Anyhow as an example I have a shipment with tracking number *** that was shipped on Feb-06 2021. It sat in China for two weeks before moving off to Dubai. During that two week period I was able to pay customs and VAT and received a response from Olean Matsiari who is their "collection specialist" indicating that he had received my payment. Finally, when arriving in South Africa two weeks late, I am told that the shipment will not be delivered until I pay VAT and customs. Now I need to incur more delays while trying to reach them and once again, prove that payment has been made. If you have a time critical delivery DO NOT use TNT.
Thank you for taking the time to write about the experience that you have had with TNT. Please allow us a short while to investigate the circumstances around this issue. A member of our management team will make contact with you directly to resolve this as soon as possible. I trust this is in order.

A representative from TNT contacted me shortly after I wrote this and found that there had indeed been an error made on their systems. My parcel should have been immediately sent out for delivery however it was being held while they awaited customs and VAT which had already been paid a week earlier and they have email in response acknowledging.
The parcel was cleared on the Monday which made me believe that it would be delivered on the Tuesday. Not with TNT though. Tuesday it sat in the same place all day and was only delivered on the Wednesday. So my original statement stands. If you have a time critical shipment then use another carrier. If your shipment is not time critical and TNT are offering better pricing then use them.
