We were booked on a Fastjet flight from Zanzibar to Johannesburg last week, when we received an email which informed us that our flight had been rescheduled the evening before our flight. We had booked this flight months in advance to get a ‘good deal’, which also meant we had booked our connecting flight to Cape Town at the same time. Now I understand that there may be operational issues from time to time, but this schedule change cost us just over R3000 to change our connecting flight with Mango, plus an accommodation fee of R850 to stay overnight in Jo’burg as there were no available connecting flights to Cape Town that evening. So our ‘low cost’ flight ended up costing us an extra R4000!
One of our group contacted Fastjet about the delay, and we were told that we could go to the Fastjet office in Jo’burg and our overnight accommodation would be taken care of. When we arrived in Jo’burg the Fastjet office was closed, so we were left stranded.
This is not the first time we have been left stranded by Fastjet, as our flight was cancelled from Dar Es Salaam on a previous occasion (which we only found out when we arrived at the airport), for which we received a refund.
I would like to ask how Fastjet proposes to reimburse or compensate us this time?
