Me and three friends booked a round trip with Fastjet well in advance of the dates we wanted to travel (+-3 months). We were notified via a telephone call and e-mail from their head offices in Dar es Salaam Tanzania that ONLY OUR OUTBOUND flight has changed to an earlier time.

We checked in at OR Thambo and nothing was mentioned about a change to our return flight time. When arriving on time at the airport in Dar es Salaam on the intended time of travel for the inbound flight, we could not find our flight. Enquiring at their offices, they said that our flight was moved earlier that morning and that we were notified via SMS...are you serious???

Given the fact that one of our friends was very sick and urgently needed to get to the hospital back in South Africa we needed to make an urgent plan to take another flight. Fastjet only flew two days later to South Africa so that was out of the question. SAA was the only other option for that day and the flight cost us around R6000.00 per person. R2000 more than our total round trip cost us with Fastjet.

After a fight with them we could each get the money back for the flight with them that we did not take, but that is a very little drop in major expense that we had to incur because they changed the flight without notifying us.

After many e-mails and slow responses they said that their terms and conditions state that they cannot reimburse us for any costs we occurred due to flight changes, can you believe it. We asked if we can at least get a discount on future flights with them and we got the same response...they cannot reimburse for any costs occurred.

So if you fly with them, you must phone their office regularly to check if your flight is still scheduled at the same time or not moved earlier, which is far worse than a later flight. The safest would probably be to phone the Airport to confirm their flight time than their office.
