Unpleasant, rude doctor and sub-standard work.

I booked an appointment with Dr Estie Pretorius who was recommended to me by somebody on Facebook.

On arrival she was dismissive when I tried to explain the situation and recent botched treatments. She was rushed and late and when I requested a quick toilet break she said "REALLY??" and then told me she was already running late - which wasn't my problem - I was there on time and had booked the appointment.

The very next day I was experiencing pain again and when I contacted them - she insisted there was no error on her part.

The pain then subsided but about a week later the one tooth she repaired was giving me pain again and when I complained, they again dismissed the issue with an email outlining what was done and recommending I go see another dentist to complete the job.

I was told the I needed 4 crowns, 4 root canals and an urgent extraction - and fillings, which turned out to be 70% completely wrong advise.

The visit cost me R3k and only half of it was done right.

The pain again subsided and I then got an infection which nearly spread into the rest of my system - long story short, another dentist, which I can highly recommend, also in Alberton, Dr Marc, fixed the tooth without a root canal, and repaired two other teeth - within two visits - each lasting only 15 minutes.

The first visit - he immediately alleviated the pain and infection and a week later the tooth was done.

He also advised me against the extraction, saying it can cause other problems, took the initiative to file down a sharp edge on another chipped tooth - something none of the other dentists offered or saw - and didn't rush me when I wanted to talk to him. He was not at all dismissive but is a kind, compassionate man and a brilliant dentist!

Dr Estie Pretorius, was dismissive, unpleasant and rude and her work is not TERRIBLE, I wont lie, the tooth that was problematic was badly damaged - but her work is not wonderful and I definitely wouldn't recommend her.

I know I am not the only one who likes to deal with someone polite and willing to listen.

I will also say though, that the receptionists at Family Dental Center were very pleasant and helpful - especially on the phone.

So what I was told was going to be work in excess of R35k from Dr Pretorius has ended up being a fraction of the price and her advice turned out to be wrong.
