False "Promise" Refrigeration

Awful workmanship, shocking service, zero support. These guys define ‘Hit & Run’.

I learnt a valuable lesson from False ‘Promise’ Refrigeration. NEVER PAY IN ADVANCE. Dealing with this company is my single biggest mistake in three years of living in Somerset West.

At the quoting stage, the rather casual owner seemed to be a very nice chap. I then made the mistake of paying the full bill in advance. More fool me.

To say things went instantly downhill would be a lie. Everything fell off a cliff.

I was advised it would take two weeks for the AC units to arrive and two days to install. A date was set. They didn't show up. Phone call, after phone call, after phone call. A new date was set. No show. Eventually they showed up another two weeks later. They butchered the wall in my boys bedroom. Fear not, their ‘installers’ know how to use a caulking gun. EVERYTHING covered with sealant.

That was one unit installed. Badly. Three more to go.

Over the next week, they managed to install two other units. The only things that changed were the installers. Same bad workmanship. Same mess. Same love of the caulking gun.

By this point I was fed up; they had butchered multiple walls (inside and out). The mess they left behind (*****s, bits of plastic, cigarette butts, cement, tools, etc) now seemed par for the course. For the last unit (in my lounge) I insisted the owner was present for the install. He finally showed up a number of days later and he went about the install himself. Disaster. Shocking attitude, not interested in the units fitting properly, no respect for your house, terrible workmanship, same adoration for the caulking gun.

So everything is done - to a shocking standard. These guys do not care where PVC pipes hang or whether trunking is put up straight. They don’t care if they drilled the wrong holes in your walls - just leave them. Is the AC unit flush to the wall? Who cares. Have I left my **** all over your house? Yeah, so what.

Only problem now is the one remote and warranty card he forgot. The owner promises me, “they’re under the seat in my car”. A few days later he troubled himself enough to drop the remote off - cursing under his breath as he did so. No warranty card however. That’s still, “under the seat in my car”. The same place it’s been for six months now.

Six months of polite reminders on WhatsApp about the missing warranty card - no reply.

So here we are today, six months subsequent to my initial dealings with False Bay Refrigeration.

One unit has been rattling like a monster for ages. Another unit doesn’t heat properly. After lots of phone calls and WhatsApp messages they finally arrived today (the last three times he’s promised to come about these problems he hasn’t). So it turns out, the rattling unit still had a piece of metal in it that they forgot to remove when unpacking. They told me the other unit had no gas, and a gas leak….but they later decided that wasn’t the case, it was a faulty sensor. Apparently he’s ordered a replacement sensor. Apparently my warranty card is still under his seat.

I was desperate to write this six months ago - but for the sake of a local business I chose to bite my tongue. After this last round of dealings with False Bay Refrigeration I’d being doing the Helderberg population a disservice if I didn’t write this.

For all you people with no AC units installed; I hope it’s a mild summer.
