I was looking for a new flat on gumtree and found one I was interested in and really liked and it was at a good price. I got a response from faircape to email ********** for more information. I did so and I got a response from them saying the viewing for the flat ended the day before and that the flat is currently still available. I then sent my application through without viewing the flat and called Mr Mark Morgan (who emailed me) and asked him to put my application at the top and I also forward the necessary documents. He then called me and said I should pay the deposit to secure the flat (as there were many other applicants as well) and then I could view the flat at 5pm that day but he needs proof of payment before. He wanted an immediate payment but when I did the EFT I forgot to make it immediate as the account he gave me was with FNB and I am with Absa. I effected the payment against my better judgement as I researched the company and they had a website and no **** complaints online. Then another redflag was probably when I saw the bank account was not in the name of the business. Then when I wanted to view the flat he said he couldn't make it that day at 5pm and said we can do it the next day at 5pm. The next day he says he will send me the rental contract which I will have to bring at 5pm to sign as well as the proof of payment for the 1st month rental. This was not what we agreed and I was not prepared to pay this amount of money to someone I haven't met and without viewing the flat. This was the last straw for me and I called Mr Mark Morgan back and told him I do not feel comfortable with this situation and asked him to refund my deposit. He then got aggressive on the phone and said that is not the rules of the company and that I must just pay before I can view. He then put the phone down and I could not get hold of him thereafter again. His cellphone number no longer works and he keeps dropping my call on from his landline.
