Damaged Goods - your word against our company!

Why is that the customer always has to prove themselves and the company giving the service always pretends to always be correct, that we as the customer are wrong and are required to prove otherwise when its them that have been negligent leading to almost 47k worth of damage to my parents belongings in a move.

Written on behalf of my parents

Removal date: 1st July 2017

Removal company: Eezi Move

Representative: Maritza Weeber

Move from Pretoria East to Centurion +/- 20kms

Arranged with the representative for packing and wrapping of all items

On receipt of these items at the new address we found that due to negligence from the Packers & Movers (different teams!) the following items were damaged:

In November 2016. I had 2 x Coricraft lounge suites recovered, so I arranged with Maritza that both lounge suites “must” be covered/wrapped to protect and keep them clean!

However only one was wrapped and the other was not! The one which was not wrapped was damaged/stained from a red marking pen, which was used by the Movers to identify items in some of the boxes. This was not a permanent marker, but rather a whiteboard marker! One 3 x seater couch + One 2 x seater couch + One Ottoman – were all Stained from the red ink, the covers were also dirty & one couch had a blood stain & an oil stain!

Maritza was appreciative that I notified her of the red marking pen incident, she said they had no idea this was being used and thanked me for advising her so they could prevent the team of Movers from using it again on other customers items! She also appreciated the pictures I sent her of the damaged goods due to negligence and the way the boxes had been badly packed!

Maritza arranged for a cleaning company to inspect the suite with the intention of them being able to clean it. However when Gerhard from Eezi Dry came, he told me he wasn’t prepared to attempt to clean the suite as it may leave water marks from the cleaning product he uses!

However The Manager did not portray the same empathy as Maritza, as I received a call from the Manager to say, the Owner would like to offer R1000 compensation. (Seriously) When I said this was an insult, the response I received from her was “if you read the T’s & C’s it is your responsibility to make sure the goods were packed safely on the truck” and that it is MY WORD AGAINST THEIRS as to who damaged the goods!

On that note I am not a professional Packer/Mover and that is why I appointed in good faith what I thought to be a professional removal company. Only to discover I made a big mistake and have since discovered there are many dissatisfied customers , why are they still in business???

The following items were also damaged:

Bedroom suite - Wall/Dressing Mirror – Cracked/Broken as well as the Dressing table leg – Broken off!

My daughter told me she saw the Movers with a tool box trying to fix something in the bedroom and possibly hiding the damage as they didn’t tell us the leg was broken off, we only discovered this after they had left when cleaning the furniture!

The Double Fridge/Freezer has Dents ( only 8 months old)

Various smaller items were damaged:

Royal Albert China breakfast plate – Broken

Crystal glass - Chipped

Jersey & Pants – Stained from red marker

Books & Photo Albums just thrown into boxes, not packed – Bent /broken

2 Bedside lamps – Missing

We spent 2 weeks unpacking the items which the team packed and have been very disappointed in the way some of the items thrown into boxes, some items were wrapped & some were not! Most boxes were marked with the contents and not the room, some boxes had mixed items from different rooms. I specifically asked for certain Paintings to be individually wrapped, some were wrapped with others & not individually

It was not our intention to unpack everything as we will be moving again in 6 months as we are in the process of building a new house, but because of breakages & damages & mixed boxes we have had to unpack everything to check for further damages and for storage purpose.

This has been a very unpleasant move, definitely the worst removal we have experienced.

We will definitely not recommend Eezi Move to anyone!

Lesley Bentley
