Execu-move

I would like to tell anyone who is leaving South Africa and is thinking of using Execu move not to use them. I had my house contents shipped to Australia using Execu move and I’ve just finished going through everything and found stuff missing which I bet was gone before my stuff left the country. My fridge was damaged by Execu move before it left my front gate we were told they would take R1000 off our total because they damaged the fridge we never saw this discount.
I had a media player with an internal hard drive ****** worth R4000, LG external hard drive ****** worth R1000, Blueray dvd player ****** worth R3000. We did not take out full insurance as they assured us nothing ever goes missing so we took total loss insurance.
We were told by Execu move that when our stuff was stored in there warehouse it would be stacked on pallets which was not the case as I watched them pack the container from there warehouse and it was stacked on a concrete floor for more than a month, I turned a box over to re tape it and I saw moisture inside the bubble wrap so moisture was inside our boxes before it was put inside the container. Our fridge was damaged from them dropping it going down our front stairs in SA, our bed head was broken on the day they packed the container which they fixed but I had to get fixed over this side again, they dropped a box which had a pump in it when they loaded the container which I had to throw away this side because it was beyond repair, 2 fishing rods were damaged as they wrapped them in with heavy steel rods, my daughters tea set was destroyed as they packed it in with heavy engine parts, 1 mirror was broken because they were not created in wood which we paid for, 2 light fittings were broken because again they packed it in with workshop machines and an overlocker sowing machine was broken beyond repair because again they packed it in with a 30kg workshop vice. The total loss was around R23000 for the things ****** and all the damaged goods that were beyond repair. DO NOT USE EXECU MOVE.

Jason

Hello Jason

It seems to us that we have taken more time to digest and investigate your very caustic and damning report than you ever took to think it through and write it. We believe you have not considered (a) that there are always two sides to every story (b) that we have the right of response and (c) that the average reader of Hellopeter is a little more worldly wise than you may have given credit for.

For starters - our enviable records on Hellopeter will indicate to any person reading these reports, including any person wishing to make a decision about whom to move with – that we are a long established removal company that takes what we do very seriously. We take compliments as seriously as we do complaints, we are not arrogant and certainly do not profess to be perfect but we do strive for perfection in an incredibly difficult business and will always go the extra mile to make right, if and where things may have gone wrong.

That said here are some facts that you eluded to mention in your report:-

 1. The most astonishing point and the reason that we have placed this point first – is that 90% of what you have castigated us for was NEVER reported to us prior to your Hellopeter report – the first we learnt about it was on Hellopeter like the average reader. Contrary to your belief, Hellopeter will not resolve your problem – only we can do that for you!
 2. Peter Cheales developed Hellopeter many years ago to give the SA consumer a platform to vent when they had exceeded every avenue to resolve an issue between customer and supplier – NOT as a soap box for wholesale castigation by a disgruntled consumer that has given zero notification to the supplier about what it is that is upsetting him?!
 3. The little we knew about at the time of packing and loading we resolved. I.E. the fridge that was scratched during handling at the residence we deducted R1000 off your costing. The head board that was damaged we repaired without question.
 4. You do not mention:- That you could not pay the 50% standard deposit at the time of booking your shipment and that we broke protocol and accepted what you could afford which was closer to a 30% deposit.
 5. You do not mention:- That at the time of shipping you could not pay the balance due and that as a show of goodwill we brought your effects into our storage facility and stored them for free until your money became available!
 6. Your effects were indeed stored in storage pallets – they were removed from the storage pallets on the day of loading (standard procedure) – you immediately jumped to the conclusion that your effects had been stored the whole time, on the ground. You are claiming a lot of things, yet water / damp damage that you quickly point out on one box, is not one of them?
 7. Regarding claiming:- You tell Hellopeter that we assured you nothing ever goes missing justifying that as being the reason for taking Total Loss liability?? No sir, you took Total Loss Liability as it is half the cost of All Risk which would have covered the losses you speak of had you declared them and paid accordingly for All Risk Liability.
 8. Further on Total Loss – you signed a declaration letter provided by our brokers explaining the limitations of Total Loss and their recommendation for All Risk, yet knowingly opted for Total Loss liability.
 9. You accuse us of theft – again jumping to conclusions that it is Execu-move. Yes indeed it could be and we will investigate thoroughly but again look at our records on Hellopeter. Not once have you considered that it may have happened during the Australian quarantine inspection where all your effects are unloaded and rummaged through. It would be terribly naïve of you to believe, even for a moment, that your new country has a squeaky record when it comes to petty theft!
 10. The ”Out Turn report from our Australian agents, signed by you, indicates “Received the goods above in good order and unpacked to my satisfaction”.
 11. Yet it took you over 6 weeks to report anything to the contrary??
 12. You do not mention that your shipment was not only household effects but also contained a lot of what is classed as “rough stuff’ in the industry e.g. garage equipment, car parts etc and that you packed the majority of smalls yourself!

Jason, we do not profess that we will get every shipment right 100% every time – that would be arrogant. Moving overseas is the ultimate long distance move fraught with challenges that the mover must face, on your behalf, during the door to door phase. But our records will reflect, that we get it right 96% of the time – that is more than any other removal company - by far!

Presently the numbers stand at 169 x Hellopeter compliments to only 7 x complaints – most of which have been amicably resolved. Your report is the only “one red star” report we have ever received, it is also the only report received that we knew nothing about until we read about it on Hellopeter.

In conclusion, we leave it to the informed reader to draw their own conclusions about your report and whether your approach to simply inflict damage to our proud reputation, may not have been better served by approaching us and allowing us to try and amicably resolve whatever it was bothering you?

Regards

Peter Theron (GM Execu-move)

Reviewer Update

To whom it may concern.
Let me answer your points.
1. I did contact execu move 4 weeks ago I called to speak with Stitan he was not there so they said he will call me back.
2. The history lesson I didn’t need and I did contact your company.
3. We did not see that deduction as Stitan did not give me the final paper work which my wife asked for. The head board was just pushed back together where it was broken.
4. I don’t understand what this point has to do with my complaint. Stitan assured us the first time he gave his quote that our deposit was ok.
5. We did not ask for the free storage Stitan arranged this.
6. This I can’t believe why would you take our effects that were apparently stored on pallets off the pallets split the effects up between another person’s effects in a storage shed this does not make sense. Remember I was there when they packed the container if our effects were stored on pallets it would have made more sense to move them out with a fork life then use the 10 babalas men dropping the boxes to load off the pallets into the container. Did I say any of our effects were water damaged I said there was moisture inside the wrapping from the damp concrete floor.
7. Stitan assured us nothing has ever been ****** he told us to look on hello peter.
8. Yes I know what I signed
9. Yes that is correct I accuse execu move of theft. You make out every box gets opened by customs this is not the case only 15 boxes were opened then re-taped with a different tape from what you used. All the items I mentioned that were ****** should have been packed with my desktop computer as I put these items together. Every item that I put with my desktop computer was there in 2 boxes apart from the ****** items and the box my computer was in was half empty. Also customs did not open these 2 boxes which only points the finger at your packers.
10. Yes that is correct the Australian movers did a fine job no boxes dropped I signed after they off loaded all the effects into a shed. I did have an issue with them which I did not mention on hello peter nor did you it was the way our boxes were cut opened for customs I did tell the Australian movers about this but this had nothing to do with the damage. They did not unpack the items as it was not being moved into a house it was being stored.
11. As I mentioned in point 1 I did contact execu move by phone 4 weeks ago if your staff did not have the decency to return a phone call that’s not my problem.
12. Why do I need to mention the “rough stuff” as it is part of your service to move whatever I had Stitan did not have a problem with me packing my “rough stuff” when he gave our quote. The so called “rough stuff” I packed was not damaged as I packed correctly, I said that problem was your packers put a sowing machine with an engine part I did not pack this no bubble wrapping was used on the sowing machine or engine part, the fishing rods that were crushed I did not pack, the tea cup set was packed with heavy steel items I did not pack this, the 2 light fittings again packed with heavy items I did not pack this, and you did not say why our 3 mirrors were not created in wood when we paid for this to happen.
13. This point is one I’ve added, Stitan told us that all your staff get searched before leaving the premises and your gate has a guard there. Let me tell you this is not the case the day our container was packed I walked into your Cape town branch with a box no guard at the gate I just walked in your workers were walking out to the road to smoke no guard checking them, lunch time I had to wait for your workers to have lunch so I walked through your whole warehouse no guards no one around your front gate was open as the workers went to the shop for smokes. This is why I’m accusing execu move of theift and excessive damage to my effects due to careless packing.
