DISAPPOINTED

So I have a gift card. I called Exact and want to purchase a cellphone. What confuses me is that I am not allowed to use my gift card as payment on the cellphone. That is so funny because the gift card is as good as cash. Please tell me why the gift card cannot be use towards payment. this is confusing
