MAKE SURE WHAT YOU PAY FOR ACTUALLY EXISTS!

I made an online purchase of a computer for my daughter starting varsity this year. The Evetech website showed the item as being "in stock". Then when checking out the advertised price of R27900 was available only via EFT, with a surcharge of approximately R1000 if one wanted to pay via credit card. So we paid by eft, R28000, rather expensive laptop but it's the one my daughter needed as she is doing engineering. Next day received an email stating that the laptop was in fact "out of stock" with no date of resupply. Instead we were offered another machine which we were not interested in. Rep**** to the e-mail stating that we would rather cancel the sale and get a refund. No reply. Sent another e-mail. No reply. Called the next day and spoke to a sales assistant who assured me someone would get back to me. No one did. Called again the next day and spoke to the salesman who sent me the original e-mail (Stephan) who claimed to mysteriously not have received any of my three e-mails asking for a refund but assured me it would be handled that afternoon. Still no reply. Called again next day and spoke to same salesman again, who told me it was with their "accounts department" and someone would get back to me that afternoon. Guess what? No-one did. 6 days later, no computer, no refund, no calls or email from anyone. Unfortunately, I am in Cape Town so I can't even go to their store in person, but is is jaw-dropping that an established company like this can behave this way without any concern at all for their reputation, they obviously regard themselves as bullet-proof and too big to fail. time will tell. Meanwhile, my battle to get my daughters computer money back from them for a machine they never had in the first place continues. The only reason I gave them 2 stars instead of one is because they actually have real humans answering the phone instead of voicemail, I mean they still don't actually do anything, but at least they exist.
