A string of faulty components and entitled support who blame the customer.
I first purchased a Graphics card from Evetech earlier this year, and within a few weeks found out that the unit was faulty and proceeded to follow the RMA process and send back the card... and of course, having to pay a R400 restocking fee as well as shipping.
After waiting the 14 day period for them to inspect the card and send it to their supplier, they got back to me and offered me store credit for the faulty unit, telling me they no longer have a replacement in stock but will let me choose something off their store for the same value. At the time, Evetech was having a sale on an upgraded card compared to the previous one, so i took the bait.
First week in i was experiencing audible coil whine, black screen crashes and a very unstable experience overall. I naively thought this could be due to driver issues, and surely not another faulty graphics card. After a few months of dealing with this and no drivers fixing the issues, i decided to RMA the card, but due to lockdown i cancelled the first RMA request till things quiet down.
A few weeks back I was finally able to RMA the card, I packed it in the original packaging, with the box sleeve, manuals and all the rest. Upon its arrival at Evetech, they told me i had voided the warranty and that the warranty stickers were missing, they then asked for a return address to send me back the faulty card.
Since i did not remove anything from the card, i protested, and a support agent reluctantly agreed to send the faulty component to their suppliers.
Once again after a long wait, Evetech got back to me and informed me that they had their "management deal with our suppliers management directly to state your case" and that they would be sending me a replacement. Finally some good news i thought.
Fast forward to today, the replacement arrives bubble wrapped in an unsealed and different manufacturers box, surrounded by random off-cuts of foam to secure it in place. Removing the card from the packaging revealed greasy finger prints on the backplate, dirt around the fans and human gunk on the IO shield.
clear signs that this is either a refurbished or secondhand GPU. Does this mean Evetech kept the replacement card from the manufacturer and send me somebody elses returned card? Did they really think the client would be happy with this after months of struggling with faulty components and money spent on RMAs?
Regardless, if this is the quality we can expect from Evetech, I have no interest in dealing with them further.
