Maybe the small print should be bigger
I hired a car on August 25th 2017. During the usage of the car where we were rear ended at a stop street damaging the bumper and pushing the bootlid. Within an hour all was reported to the police, the employer of the other driver and Europcar (who's first reaction was 'is the car OK?' not 'are you Ok?'. The car was returned and all paper work done with the other parties details etc. We knew there was an excess of R5000 until it was sorted. Imagine my surprise when over R2000 was deducted without prior notification or invoice. So I phoned Europcar, the money was for an admin fee and assessment fee due to the insurance claim. When queried about the deduction and no invoice I was informed it took 24 hours for it to be generated but less than 5 minutes to take the money. Can't think of an industry where they take the money and invoice you later. Oh but that's ok it's in the small print. Surely the money should be claimed from the other driver; no not at all I'm liable - it's all in the small print. it seems to be easier to take the money from the customer and keep them in the dark. Europcar Customer Service was not much better; 20 minutes on the telephone and still none the wiser. Sorry for you. I've hired from Europcar for many years but can't see why I should be loyal when it doesn't cut both ways.
