Hidden Costs for Under 25 Drivers
My 22 year old son booked a car rental for collection at Cape Town Intl Airport through Kulua / Discovery Vitality / Europcar for the dates of 27-28 Sept 2018. The online quote was for R505.74. Mileage of less than 75 km was done in the car. The website mentioned a surcharge for drivers under 21. The final charge was R925.91, the difference being attributed to a "young driver surcharge". At no point was he made aware of any other surcharge, he is over 21 and it was booked in his name with his ID number etc available on the Kulula website. I have dealt with Anthea De Kock since early October to try and get a refund for R420.17 as I am not willing to pay a hidden surcharge which was not included in the quote or T&C's. Her last communication was on 13 Nov 2018 advising that Management was reviewing my query. Nothing further has been received even though I have followed up. At the time of deciding to book a car I was leaning towards using Uber as the only requirement was getting to Stellenbosch and back to the Airport the following day. Car hire was selected because I felt the costs were known. Instead it is nothing less than **************** and I wonder how many people are being exposed to this same ********* business practice every day. Bottom line! Don't book a car if you are under 25 through Europcar or Tempest as I am told they have the same hidden agenda.
