Failure to return deposit - false damage claim

I’ve rented a Ford Figo on the 13-14 July 2016 at the Vanderbijlpark branch through my insurance, as a replacement car while my car went in for repairs. The car they gave me had a scratch on the left back door and the boot, but in the inspection sheet they only mentioned the scratch on the door, I did not think much of it as it was the same type of scratch mentioned in the report.

When I returned the car in the same condition as I received it, they told me that I would receive my deposit back after 3-4 days. After a week I checked my statement to see if the money has been returned to my account, with no luck. After enquiring about the delay, the feedback I received was that they had a damage claim against me of R2300 for the scratch against the boot, even though I received the car like that and the lady that gave me the car was in agreement that it is the same type of scratch reported on the inspection sheet.

I can’t help but think that Europcar is out to con people that are not as diligent with the inspection as they should be, out of good faith.

Very disappointed with the way this was handled, no notification of a claim – just taking money from my credit card for damages done by someone else.

I have witnesses that can verify that I received the car with the scratches and would like to resolve this issue and receive my deposit back!
