Don’t be duped / de*****ed into paying an excess for other people’s damage

I returned my Tempest car rental to Europcar at George Airport. Initially there was no one to receive the vehicle, but after about 5 mins a car sped up and someone came to attend to us. The vehicle was checked and I was given the all clear. After checking in at the airport, I received a call asking whether I could come out to the office to fill in a claim. I advised that I had no accident and the car was cleared at handover. The person insisted they had found damage. I left the airport terminal and went back to Europcar, to be shown damage. Luckily I had kept the initial inspection report when collecting the vehicle, and promptly showed that the damage was marked prior to collecting the vehicle. The accuser just responded with “oh I see it now and walked off”, no apologies for making me come out. Not sure whether they were trying to de***** me of an excess, luckily I had all the proof
